We do believe when we stand together as a nation, we can make a difference

and help out troops adjust to their new life at home.-

Elena Grant has received many blessings in her own life. Her grandmother, Lurline Matson Roth and her mother, Berenice Spalding, passed on their family tradition of nurturing, cultivating, and giving back to community and society.

In 1975, Elena’s grandmother set an admirable example when she donated her Filoli family home, complete with furnishings and formal gardens, to the National Trust for Historic Preservation, for the enjoyment and inspiration of future generations.

Lurline Matson Roth’s father, William Matson (1849-1917) was the founder of the Matson Navigation Company. Mrs. Roth also served as the president of the San Francisco Chapter of the Red Cross during World War II.

Following in the footsteps of her grandmother, Elena has created the Grant Humanitarian Foundation, to personally give back to the world, to make a difference, and to build on her family’s legacy.

Born in San Francisco, California, Elena Grant graduated from Sacred Heart in Menlo Park and attended The San Francisco School of Design. She worked extensively with internationally acclaimed artist and designer Tony Duquette of Los Angeles, whose work has been exhibited at Pavillion de Marsan of the Louvre Museum in Paris.

During the past thirty-two years, she has managed her family’s real estate investments, acted as Managing Director of the Spalding Charitable Trust, and served on the Governing Board of Directors for Filoli.

At the same time she has devoted quality time to raising her two children, Nina and Spencer Arnold. (Information provided from The Grant Foundation website).

Charlene’s Note:

I believe our returning combat veterans and their families deserve thousands of Elena Grant’s.

If only others such as she, who have the means, sense of gratitude and obligation, as well as the empathy and compassion that Grant displays, would step forward and emulate her, our society could lessen the suffering of veterans and their families in incalculable ways, and most of all, save lives and family relationships!

Elena Grant is an outstanding human being, United States citizen, and a true inspiration for all of us.
